Birth of a Book — The Life and Times of “Flying Alone”
It was an important week for me and my book. The joy of getting physical proof copies of Flying Alone in preparation for publication was over the top!
When I first wrote the book, it was right after my aviation career had come to an abrupt end (more on that later). I put my heart and soul into recording all that had happened during those years. As I laid it all out, I realized how remarkable the ride had been in all manner of speaking.
I wrote and wrote, and when I was finished, I put the paper manuscript in a box where it still is today. There were other things going on in my life that took up my time and attention, so I set the book aside knowing someday its time would come.
Well, the manuscript sat in its box for 27 years and made it through 16 moves, many of which were between states, until I finally revisited it in earnest a year and a half ago, and it’s been full speed ahead ever since. Now you can understand how thrilling it was to hold the final product in my hands!
But that was just part of my week’s excitement. I also had the privilege of being interviewed about Flying Alone by Dave Costa of the nationally syndicated RenegadeAV8R Radio Show. Dave is a jet air show demo pilot, radio show host and CEO of an aircraft brokerage company...a true “renegade aviator.” The show will air this weekend (you can listen online) and will be available as a podcast next week. I do hope you’ll listen in!
